In exploring the various ways to paint miniatures with a comic book style to them, I’ve been looking at ways that different drawing styles express “shininess.” I’ve used several different styles of this in my different Marvel United minis.
This is probably the most extreme versions, and it draws inspiration from Transformers and the like. The areas are largely flat but have very stark black and white areas added to them to give it that shiny contrast:
