I figure for Marvel Day I need to post something comic book inspired. This is a conversion I made for Grey Hulk from Marvel United miniatures.

The body started as a Red Hulk mini. I cut it off the base and stuck it in hot water so that I could bend him to stand up straight. I filled in a bit with green stuff and then put him back onto his base (with a few extra rocks sculpted on for good measure)

The head comes from the normal Hulk mini, but gave him a haircut and snipped off his nose so that I could sculpt a smaller one.

I’ve been trying to push the comic book style a bit farther lately- mostly by looking at inspiration from 1990s comics. One thing I’ve noticed is that the artists would often draw thin black lines between shadow layers, sometimes in a kind of jagged form. So I imitated those lines and used a fairly light purple as my shadow layer.

I’ve experimented quite a lot with comic book style to see where it can go. Here are some of the other minis I’ve painted for Marvel United
