Reapercon was a blast! While I always love doing shenanigans like painting Pez Dispensers or The Annual Gummy Bear Painting Challenge™, I also brought some minis to show off in the proper mini painting competition. This time, I’m separating out the shenanigans entries, but I’ll make sure to feature them soon.

The Tetsubo Kitty got more comments than I expected. I painted him with a strong eye for adding textures to all the surfaces (the fur, base, etc are all flat with textures added via paint).
That went over quite well as it won a gold medal in Painters and a Second Place from Kawna Miniatures.

This foxy little guy is from Moonlight Miniatures (it made first cut but ultimately did not place in the top 3). I used a similar approach as I had with the Kawna kitten- keeping an eye on surface textures.

In contrast to the previous two miniatures, this Batman was painted in comic style. Rather than trying to add texture to the surfaces, I attempted to imitate inked comic artwork with a lot of deliberate black lines. This time I was imitating a less clean style than the previous comic style pieces that I made for Marvel United and DC United and I think it had an interesting effect.
