A lot of top painters have spent many years devising and revising new ways to portray metal objects on miniatures. We were all very impressed by early non-metallic metals, and later when the methods developed for NMM were refined with more precise reflections and bounce lighting.
One of the more recent innovations include a lot in texture work, and especially painting with NMM lighting techniques using metallic paints (and some matt paints for the shading).
There’s a lot of craziness that goes on with these, but the final effect can be really satisfying, with dark areas and light ones
